Drilled vs Standard Titanium Bolts
The difference is retention capability—not basic fitment.
A drilled bolt provides a purpose-made path for safety wire. A standard bolt does not. Both still need the correct diameter, pitch, length, head geometry and material specification for the application.
What Is a Standard Titanium Bolt?
A standard bolt has a conventional, undrilled head. It is the straightforward choice when the motorcycle manufacturer, series rules or maintenance procedure does not call for safety wiring.
Standard titanium bolts can suit visible, corrosion-prone or weight-conscious locations when the dimensions, alloy, head style and application requirements are all correct. The absence of a drilled head does not make fitment less important.
What Changes with a Drilled Bolt?
A drilled bolt has one or more holes manufactured through the head so an appropriate safety-wire system can pass through it. This gives a technician a mechanical method of discouraging rotation and, in many applications, a visible indication that the fastener has been secured.
The drilled feature does not tighten the bolt and does not replace the specified installation procedure. It also does not make an incorrectly sized or incorrectly specified fastener suitable.
When Drilled Bolts Make Sense
Drilled-head hardware is most relevant where a race organization, technical inspection rule, team procedure or manufacturer instruction requires safety wiring. Common examples can include selected brake, axle, drain or fluid-system fasteners, but requirements vary by motorcycle and rulebook.
Before ordering, confirm the exact position, the direction and accessibility of the hole, and whether the fastener is approved for that joint. Safety wire should be installed only by someone familiar with the applicable procedure and inspection standard.
Drilled Does Not Mean a Different Titanium Grade
A drilled-head bolt and a standard-head bolt can be made from the same titanium alloy. The hole is a design feature for retention; it does not by itself identify the material grade, strength or application.
Check the published product specification for alloy, dimensions and intended use. STA Supply identifies Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V where that material is used, but the original motorcycle requirements remain the final reference.
Which Version Should You Choose?
Select the head type only after confirming the application requirements.
